Our Fish Family

We’ve had this aquarium for about three months now. The glass needs cleaning because our catfish and snails died and they use to clean it. The rest of the fish have survived. We bought the danios and tetras at Petsmart and I won the goldfish at a fair. I am wary of getting attached to fish because they seem to die pretty often especially the ones that are won at fairs. Though the last fish I won at a fair, Goner, lived almost a whole year. He really fought his namesake. This week I thought, you know what? We should go ahead and name these guys. First, we made a portrait of them. I gave Sean some markers that are the same colors as the fish and had him scribble how he thought each one looked. Then I cut out their fish shapes and we glued them to the paper.

Besides Spot and Fishy, which are pretty fish sounding names, he named all the tetras after fruit (because they are red or have red in them?) and the remaining zebra danios after fish parts. I think my favorite is Gill. He seems like the sensitive, artistic type. When you point to a fish, Sean can tell you its name though I don’t think he really can tell the danios and tetras apart. Next week I plan to get all Jane Goodall on these fish and watch them like crazy and take pictures of them to see if we can tell them apart. So far, Spot, is the only easy guy to identify. It’s not because he’s the only goldfish it’s because he is the one that’s always mad.
