Wooden Truck Marker Holder

You know what the worst thing about kids using markers? Losing the caps! By request, Andy made me this truck marker holder out of two chunks of wood. He had a hard time making the wheels but we went to Michael’s and in the woodworking area, they had wooden wheels that were just the right size for the truck. I haven’t decided how to decorate it so Sean and I just gessoed it. Besides having a place for each marker color, the caps are actually glued down.

The child just pulls out the marker and use it and then return it to its cap and push until the clicking sounds is heard. I mean that was the idea. The problem is that the holes were made too close together so it’s hard for toddler fingers to grab one and get enough leverage to pull it out. So yeah, you still have to sit around and help them pull it out and put it back in. It was actually better before I glued it down because Sean liked putting the cap in its place and then taking it out to close it and return it to its former place. Oh well, maybe if I can convince Andy to make another one, I can perfect this marker holding idea. Here is the artist in action. Sean likes the truck marker holder anyways.

  1. The truck is cut out of a single 1.5 foot or so long piece of 2×4. The holes for the marker caps would be much more consistent if I had a drill press – something I plan to add to my workshop one of these days.
